Description of functions:
The purpose of the textile industry is to transform fibres into yarn, yarn into fabric and fabric into garments, household textiles (bed and table linen, carpets, curtains, etc.) or articles for technical applications (geotextile products, airbags, safety belts, etc.).
The textile production process comprises four main stages: spinning, weaving or knitting (in which the yarn is transformed into plain or knitted fabric), finishing, and cutting, sewing and packaging.
Natural fibre fabrics, considered basic and classic, can have three origins, animal origin (wool and silk), mineral origin (asbestos) and plant origin (cotton, jute, hemp, linen and sisal).
It can also mean the company that is responsible for the production of garments, i.e. a clothing factory. Making can also refer to the process of developing medicines and substances used as pharmaceuticals.
Weaving was one of humanity’s great technological advances, allowing the production of fabrics that were used in various areas, including in the great navigations that changed the course of history.
